The repair of a faulty 6 CD player head unit as bought from eBay. Before powering the unit I took of the lid and see that the CD drive/read arm mechanism was not in it's parked position and could see that the CD drive hub (1) had become loose and was floating about the chassis, I cleaned and pushed this back on to the CD drive motor (2), this should be easy with no resistance and then spin freely. There is also some bent metalwork (5), probably due to the previous owner being brutal when removing stuck CD's, the metal tabs at the rear (5) of the top metal CD carrier plate need to be bent back so they are at 90 degrees to the small round post they are adjacent to. I also found a small spring jammed in the gearing at the rear left, this is part of the CD feed roller mechanism just behind the front slot and when I looked I also found one of the CD pressure arm had come off and jammed in the slot. So I removed the front fascia panel, then removed the main CD chassis assembly, then removed the 2 printed circuit boards mounted on the right (being very careful not to damage the small flat ribbon cables and connectors), I then removed the CD Feed roller mechanism. I then removed the lower CD support slide plate by removing the 2 plastic retainers at either end and raised the white hook clips and slide it back to disengage it, I reassembled the spring and plastic CD pressure arm and checked that everything else was OK and working but I found some debris in one gear wheel and had to grease another. I then reassembled everything ensuring that the mechanism was aligned and phased correctly before the feed roller assembly was fitted, then powered the unit to test the player and it worked first time.
