The content shown in this video is not intended to encourage emissions test cheating. I enjoy the process of testing theory because you always learn something new, regardless of the outcome. Using a spark plug defouler kit, I install a "buffer" in between the downstream oxygen sensor and the catalytic converter. Quite often, frustrated car owners get the P0420 code for reasons other than a bad cat. I have heard of people getting the code just because they removed the converter and reinstalled it. It can also happen if you run your vehicle out of gas etc... etc... It is also common for car owners to get the P0420 code, replace the converter, and both o2 sensors-- only to have the code come back after 1000 miles or so. This can be a very frustrating, time consuming and of course-- expensive venture. Here is one way to resolve the issue. Good luck and have fun!

Alright guys I need your help. I'm looking at a 96 EK with a B16a and its boosted. Its throwin atleast one code with the CEL. I really really want the car but Im worried about how am I going to get it to pass inspection. What am I getting into? I believe its OBD1 also.. Please someone shed some light on this. I've never owned a car newer than 95 so its never been an? issue.
Can I just put in a high flow cat, stock ecu and disconnect the charge pipe just for inspection? Would that work?
Is it throwing a 420 code? Whatever? you end up doing, you need to make sure the ecu completes all of it's "cycles" before bringing it in for inspection-- otherwise they will tell you to come back when it's "ready"
I dont have it yet. so its really hard to tell you an exact? answer to that question

Getting kind of tired of defending this but 20k miles later and no CEL. Car runs like? new and gets on average 28 mpg. Thx for watching

If you can get through the IM readiness test, then to pass the visual all you need to do? is weld the cat converter shell around your pipe to make it look like it's there.
Not good idea if you have a cat. Converter on your vehicle it will be costly repair in the future.
Since you took the trouble of jacking up the vehicle why use the old O2? sensor.
Get a new one

WOW i found this same idea on a? forum but the purpose was to make the o2 senser sense less O2 by bringing it out of the exaust stream , the purpose was to cause the computer to make the engine run leaner for the purpose of increasing mpg and power. the easiest way and safest way to trick the computer nto doing it; if the system senses less O2 then it thinks its running too rich so it leans the mixture
